How turn numbers work
Where the number comes from, why it resets, and why a canceled visit keeps its own.
Every visit gets a number when it is checked in. The counter shouts "forty-one", forty-one gets up. That is the entire purpose, and every rule below exists to protect it.
The rules
Numbering is per shop, per day. The first check-in each morning is 1. Tomorrow starts at 1 again.
The day is your day. "Today" is today in your shop's time zone, set when you created the shop. A shop in Bogotá and a shop in Montréal roll over at their own midnights.
Numbers are assigned in check-in order, and two people checking in at the same moment on two devices cannot get the same number. The number is allocated in the same step that saves the visit, so there is no window for a collision.
An appointment gets its number when the customer arrives, not when it was booked. A visit booked three weeks ago and a walk-in who arrives at the same minute are numbered in arrival order, because that is the order they will actually be served.
A canceled visit keeps its number
Cancel number 12 and it stays number 12. Nothing shifts up.
This is deliberate. You have already told that customer "you're number twelve", and possibly three other people heard it. Renumbering would make every number said out loud in the last ten minutes wrong.
So the sequence of called numbers can skip one. That is the gap where a cancellation was, and it is correct.
Numbers are never reused and never renumbered. If you see a gap, someone canceled — the ticket is still in Jobs with status Canceled.
Where the number shows up
- On the confirmation screen right after check-in.
- In the Turn column in Jobs.
- On the dashboard as Latest turn, which is the highest number issued in the period.
What has no number
Scheduled appointments. A future visit has no turn number at all — it gets one at check-in, and not before. Until then it is a time on the calendar.
That is also why you cannot print tomorrow's numbers today. They do not exist yet, and they will depend on who actually walks in.
